Model History:

The Seiko King Quartz line represented one of Seiko’s premium quartz collections during the 1970s, created at a time when the company was rapidly advancing electronic watchmaking. Following the mechanical King Seiko era, King Quartz models carried forward the same emphasis on refined design, technical quality and precise timekeeping, now through high-grade quartz movements.

Produced in June 1977, this King Quartz ref. 5856-8000 is powered by the Seiko 5856 movement, a sophisticated single-quartz calibre with day and date display. It belongs to the earlier generation of King Quartz models produced before Seiko’s later Twin Quartz movements became prominent within the range.

This example has a particularly elegant design, combining an angular 1970s stainless-steel case with a bright textured white dial, black Roman numerals and the King Quartz emblem above 6 o’clock. The English/Kanji day wheel confirms that it was originally produced for the Japanese domestic market.

Condition:

The watch is in very nice overall vintage condition. The stainless-steel case retains its attractive angular profile and brushed finish, with light scratches and minor signs of wear consistent with its age. The polished bezel shows some superficial marks visible under close inspection.

The textured white dial is well preserved and remains bright and clean, with crisp King Quartz printing and sharply defined Roman numerals. There are a few minor age-related marks around the outer edge of the dial and near the day-date aperture, but these do not detract from its overall appearance. The new crystal is clean and scratch-free.

The original caseback is present and retains its battery hatch, Seiko markings and reference engraving. It shows normal surface wear from use. The watch is fitted with a non-original stainless-steel bracelet in good usable condition.

The quartz movement has been serviced, fitted with a new battery, and all functions operate correctly. The watch is supplied with a 3-month functionality guarantee.
