Juvenia - Balancier Compensateur 18K Gold - 1850-1900

Juvenia - Swiss pocket watch in 18-karat gold, with guilloché engraved case. Elegant Swiss pocket watch from Juvenia, mechanical hand-wound model, with circular case in 18-karat yellow gold. Richly worked case, featuring guilloché decoration and engravings with flowers, foliate motifs and vegetal scrolls. The rear cover has, at the center, an oval-shaped reserve intended for monogram engraving, currently without initials. White dial signed «Juvenia», with stylized Arabic numerals, peripheral minute track, blued steel hands and small seconds sub-dial. The dial shows stains, small marks and signs of aging compatible with antiquity. Swiss mechanical movement hand-wound by crown, protected by a gold dust cap engraved with a coat of arms and the inscriptions: «Juvenia - Balancier Compensateur - Précision Chronométrique». Interior marked «Juvenia», numbered, with indication «18K» and Swiss contrast representing the Helvetia head, used on 18-karat gold watch cases. The mandatory Swiss contrasts for watch cases were introduced in 1882. Juvenia was founded in 1860 in Saint-Imier and developed its pocket watch production especially during the early years of the 20th century, a coherent historical framing with the typology and decoration of this specimen. It is running at the time of cataloguing, but has not been revised nor tested for precision, autonomy or regularity of operation.
