Elegant natural Biwa shaped Pearls, Baroque Pearls and silver drop earrings. Ear hooks stamped S925, all silver parts, sterling silver. Length: 5.2cm. Width: 3cm. Hand crafted. These are freshwater cultured Biwa shaped Pearls, not from lake Biwa.
Biwa pearls are a type of cultured freshwater pearl originally harvested from Lake Biwa in Japan. Famous for their organic, elongated, or "stick-like" baroque shapes and deep, iridescent luster, authentic vintage Biwa pearls are rare and highly collectible due to the near-halt of production caused by historical pollution.
