Description
The handwritten tag reads:
“Pair of Victorian Hallmarked Silver Candle Sticks”
* Type: Ζεύγος τριφωτών κηροπήγων
* Style: Υψηλή Βικτωριανή / Αναβίωση Ροκοκό
* Material: Ασήμι με σφραγίδες (υποθέτοντας ότι οι σφραγίδες επικυρώνουν το sterling)
* Finish: Γυαλιστερό ασημένιο
* Design:
* Κεντρική υποδοχή κεριού με δύο καμπυλωτούς βραχίονες
* Πλούσιο διακοσμητικό φύλλο ακανθού
* Στελέχος μπαλούστρου με κεφαλάκια
* Βαρύ κυκλικό διακοσμημένο βάσης
* Αποσπώμενα κλαδιά (τυπικό σε υψηλής ποιότητας βικτωριανά κηροπήγια)

Important
Victorian silver candelabra are very often weighted inside the base with pitch, plaster, cement, or another heavy filler to improve stability. The silver itself is formed as a shell around this weighted core. This was standard practice and does not reduce their desirability as antiques.
The ornate Rococo Revival decoration, combined with the hallmarks, is consistent with a Victorian or early Edwardian British pair, roughly 1860–1905.
Origin year said by the antiquarian seller when I purchased was 1874
