Karol Józef Wojtyła, późniejszy Jan Paweł II – papież, urodził się 18 maja 1920 roku w Wadowicach jako syn Karola i Emilii, z domu Kaczorowskiej. his father was a soldier – he worked as an official, while his mother stayed at home and cared for the children. As a lawson, Karol had a brother Edmund (doctor) 14 years older and a sister Olga who died shortly after birth. He was baptized on 19 June 1920 in the nearby church pw. Ofiarowania Najświętszej Maryi Panny, with which he remained connected for the rest of his stay in his hometown. A month before Holy Communion his mother died. From then on his father took care of him – he looked after good upbringing, education, patriotism and the spiritual development of his son, who attended Mass daily. In the Middle School Gymnasium in Wadowice he joined the theatre club, where he learned poetry and theatre. When he was 12 years old his brother died as a result of scarlet fever contracted from his patients.
