Vera Effigies of the Holy Face – Vatican, 1880

A 19th‑century Vatican devotional print and certification document for a Vera Effigies (“True Image”) of the Holy Face of Jesus on the Veil of Veronica. The engraving carries the traditional Latin inscription affirming its preservation and veneration in St. Peter’s Basilica.

The print retains its original red wax seal, indicating it was touched to major Passion relics — the Veil of Veronica, the True Cross, and the Holy Lance. The accompanying certificate, dated 1880 (MDCCCLXXX), confirms the image was touched to the authentic Veil of Veronica within the Basilica of the Prince of the Apostles. It includes an official signature, authentication seal, and a printed “GRATIS” mark showing it was issued without charge.

Condition: Overall good condition; frame shows areas of missing paint.
