Imperial Russian 84 Silver Niello Goblet/Cup, Moscow, 1839
A fine and collectible Russian silver beaker crafted in Moscow in 1839, during the reign of Tsar Nicholas I. Made of 84 zolotnik silver (approx. .875 standard), the piece is richly decorated in traditional niello technique, featuring detailed engraved and blackened scenes.
The body is adorned with a narrative figural composition depicting a dynamic rural scene with two figures in action, set against a background of stylized architecture and landscape. Surrounding panels display intricate floral and ornamental motifs, demonstrating high-quality workmanship typical of early 19th-century Moscow silver.
The underside bears clear hallmarks, including the Moscow city mark, the 84 silver standard, the assay master’s mark “И.Д” (identified as Dudkin, Postnikova catalog #2106), and the maker’s mark “A.K.” ( Postnikova catalog#2198), confirming authenticity and period. – see the last 3 photo.
