An elegant Japanese Kutani ware vase decorated in the traditional Aochibu Tessen (青粒鉄仙) style and bearing the name Towa.
The surface is covered with an exceptionally detailed pattern of countless small turquoise-blue dots known as aochibu. Flowing clematis-inspired arabesque motifs and floral designs are highlighted in gold against the deep dark ground, creating a refined contrast between turquoise, black and gold.
Aochibu is one of the distinctive decorative styles associated with Kutani ware. The technique requires numerous tiny raised dots to be carefully applied across the surface, producing an intricate, almost textile-like texture. The Aochibu Tessen style became established in the Taisho period and remains a highly recognizable Kutani decorative tradition.
The upper and lower borders are further embellished with finely executed gold geometric and scrolling patterns, giving the vase an especially rich and sophisticated appearance.
The piece is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako) and an inscribed wooden identification plaque reading:
“Kutani Ware – Aochibu Tessen – Made by Towa.”
The combination of dense blue-dot decoration, gold detailing and the elegant rounded form makes this vase particularly attractive as a display piece.
