In the 1970s Gijsbert Hanekroot worked as a free-lance photographer based in Amsterdam where he had a studio (Berenstraat 18). His main assignment was bi-weekly music paper Muziekkrant Oor (Ear), but he also worked for daily newspapers and magazines. He did concerts, interviews, press receptions and studio shoots. It were the golden years of rock music where the big names made their first and second albums, hard working to break through.

Hanekroot: 'It must have cost them an hour and a half to change and do make up for a photo shoot. No problem - it's worth waiting to take such shots.'

Recently Gijsberts photos were shown in exhibitions in a.o. Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Belgrade and Amsterdam. He also published several books.
