Almost Someone
A large, expressive portrait built from broad layers of white, grey and black acrylic. The face seems to emerge from the surface while simultaneously dissolving back into it, leaving only the suggestion of an individual.
Loose brushwork, scratches and overlapping marks give the painting a raw and immediate character. From a distance the human form becomes clear; closer up, it breaks apart into an energetic field of abstract gestures and texture.
The restrained black-and-white palette gives the work a strong graphic presence and makes it easy to place in both modern and minimalist interiors.
About the artist
MiLo is a self-taught Dutch artist whose work moves between abstraction and figurative painting. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, his paintings are characterized by expressive surfaces, scratched and layered marks, and a direct, intuitive approach to image-making.
His work has been acquired by private collectors throughout Europe as well as in the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
