Περιγραφή από τον πωλητή
Elegant antique English silk plush top hat by Lincoln Bennett & Co., London, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1920.
A refined example of traditional British gentleman’s formal wear, this original Victorian / Edwardian top hat is finished in luxurious black silk plush, prized for its distinctive deep sheen and exceptionally smooth appearance. Silk plush was the premium material used for high-quality formal top hats during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The hat retains its classic tall crown, beautifully curved brim and original black grosgrain / petersham ribbon. Beneath the silk exterior is the traditional lightweight yet rigid gossamer shell construction, characteristic of fine English top hats of this period.
The interior features its original leather sweatband and light textile lining, together with the historic Lincoln Bennett & Co. marking. The initials “J.T.” are also present on the inside, most likely belonging to the original owner and adding a particularly personal historic detail.

Historical Appeal
During the Victorian and Edwardian periods, the black silk top hat represented elegance, social standing and formal British dress. Examples produced by established London hatmakers such as Lincoln Bennett & Co. were carefully constructed for gentlemen attending formal occasions, ceremonies, society events and important public engagements.
Traditional silk plush of this quality is no longer commonly manufactured, making surviving original examples increasingly desirable among collectors of antique fashion, Victorian menswear, Edwardian clothing, British gentleman’s accessories and historic costume.
Today, this Lincoln Bennett & Co. top hat works equally well as a collectible fashion object, decorative interior piece, gentleman’s dressing-room accessory, period display object or addition to a curated historical collection.
A sophisticated and atmospheric piece of British sartorial history with more than a century of character.
