You're bidding on two books by Steve McQueen.

Steve McQueen (British, b. 1969) is an artist and filmmaker known for moving-image works that explore the body, identity, history, and the physical relationship between image, viewer, and space. Born in London, McQueen studied at Chelsea School of Art, Goldsmiths College, and the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He emerged in the 1990s with films including Bear (1993), Five Easy Pieces (1995), and Deadpan (1997), and was awarded the Turner Prize in 1999.

McQueen’s practice encompasses film and video installation, photography, and sculpture, often addressing questions of memory, representation, and social and political history. Major works include Caribs’ Leap / Western Deep (2002), Once Upon a Time (2002), and Year 3 (2019). In 2009, he represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale, and major surveys of his work have been presented at the Art Institute of Chicago, Schaulager in Basel, and Tate Modern in London. His work is held in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. McQueen lives and works in London and Amsterdam.

Artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen continues his exploration of colonial history and its legacies in this new book comprised of meditative photographs of Grenada’s flora. Taken on a trip to the island in the summer of 2024, these images reckon with the connections between landscape and historical trauma, studying Grenada’s plant life as permanent markers of beauty in a land ravaged by exploitation. Rendered in vivid colour, the images reflect the complex interlocking of history, heritage, and survival contained in the simplicity of the island flora. Taking as his touchpoint the late Saint Lucian poet Derek Walcott’s elegy to his mother, ‘The Bounty’, McQueen’s project adopts a similarly poetic sensibility, attuned to the resilience of the island’s landscape and the dualities of the word ‘bounty’, which alludes to both the generosity of nature and the sum paid to slave catchers. Grounded in a deep reverence for the sublime natural world, Bounty invites a visceral engagement with the silent endurance of nature despite the grim realities of human history.

The Catalogue Raisonné will be published on the occasion of the opening of the largest exhibition project to date of Steve McQueen's work and will provide a detailed insight into the complex and unusual œuvre of the important British artist. The exhibition will comprise installations, photographs and film from every period of his artistic career. It will first be presented at the Art Institute of Chicago, Schaulager Basel will subsequently present an enlarged version of the exhibition. The publication will contain contributions of the very experts of the artist's work, concentrating on specific aspects and numerous illustrations of all works. Steve McQueen's works are characterised by an experimental approach to film, joined by an exploration of the boundaries between the documentary and the narrative; topics that are represented in every work in a highly differentiated manner. McQueen (b. 1969 in London) has received many awards: He was the winner of the Turner prize in 1999, and with his feature film Hunger he won the Caméra d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. He represented the UK at the 2009 Venice Biennale, and entered the Venice Film Festival with Shame in 2011, where Michael Fassbender won the best actor's award. Texts by James Rondeau, Okwui Enwezor, Jean Fisher, Georges Didi-Huberman; and an interview by Adrian Searle with the artist
