Beautiful Dan singer mask, from the western part of Cote d'Ivoire.
The dancer of the mask and its owner enjoy a very high status in the Dan village hierarchy.
Their appearance, at masked parties, resolves conflicts that could not have been resolved by the village chief.
Those who do not respect masks commit a serious crime against their society and religion.
Dan masks are highly hierarchical during ceremonies: some appear only to entertain the public, others are mute or well endowed with speech.
The majority speak and sing, their voices can be manifested by music.
The item is orned with loads of bronze bells.
The patina present traces of time and use.
