About the Artist: Harsh K Hingu

Harsh K Hingu (b. 27 September 1997, Ahmedabad, Gujarat) lives and works in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. He trained at NIFT Gandhinagar (GPTAD, 2018) and holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (2025).

Artistic vision

In his own words: "My work is rooted in being present. I paint from what I am experiencing around me, allowing my surroundings, emotions, people, animals, places and moments to naturally enter the work. I use cubism as a way of seeing and breaking down these experiences rather than simply representing what is in front of me. The work develops through instinct, and I allow the painting to guide me as much as I guide it.

My connection with Indian spirituality, mythology and culture is an important part of where I come from, but I am not interested in simply illustrating these ideas. I bring them into my work through my own experiences and the way I understand the present."

The result is a cubism that is neither historical quotation nor pastiche. Hingu builds his pictures from heavy black contour lines laid over flat, saturated fields of acrylic - a drawn language, closer to signwriting and street lettering than to the analytic cubism of a century ago, and one that lets several figures occupy the same shape at once. Faces appear in profile inside limbs; a hand resolves into a crown; a horse's head becomes the shoulder of the horse beside it. The brush is left visible throughout, deliberately: he keeps the marks and the uneven edges so the work reads as made rather than manufactured.

Two figures on an acid-green ground, locked into one another so completely that it takes a moment to separate them. The left one wears a blue cap and holds a pipe; the right one is built from a single sweep of Klein blue that serves as head, shoulder and arm at once. Between them a pale turquoise body folds forward, and a yellow limb hooks around the lower edge like a bracket holding the whole thing together. Heavy black contour lines carry the drawing; the colour inside them is laid flat, in yellows, sap green, cobalt and pale blue, with the brush left plainly visible.

This is one half of a pair. Hum Aur Tum - "me and you" - is the artist's most direct statement about companionship: two people who cannot be described separately because the shapes that make one of them are also making the other.

In the artist's words: "Hum Aur Tum (Me and You) is a pair of paintings that explores love, companionship, and the quiet moments that exist within a relationship. The title reflects the emotions and memories that were present in my mind while making these works. These paintings were created shortly after completing my States of Consciousness series. By this stage, I had become more interested in trusting the present moment than planning an image in advance. Rather than beginning with a fixed idea, I allowed the paintings to unfold naturally, following where my instincts and subconscious wanted to take them."

Veer Hooda is an Indo-European (Austrian) contemporary artist based in Vienna, whose practice is shaped by a deep connection to his Indian roots and a great love for his now home, Europe.

Veer Hooda has exhibited across some of the top galleries and exhibitions in the world and recently finished his sold-out show at Art Basel Miami 2025. This year he will be exhibiting at, among others, the Venice Biennale 2026 and ArtExpo New York 2026, in multiple exhibitions across Europe and Austria, and returning to Art Basel Miami at the end of the year.

While his own work reflects a strong conceptual and material sensibility developed over years of creative and professional experience, Hooda is equally driven by a clear mission: to make outstanding Indian artistic talent more visible and accessible within the European art market. Positioned between India and Europe, he acts as a cultural bridge, offering early access to artists and narratives that are already gaining significant international recognition - a distinct insider perspective at a pivotal moment for Indian contemporary art.

Packaging & insurance: The painting is packaged professionally and shipped rolled in a tube. It arrives unstretched and will need to be restretched onto a frame on arrival - any framer will do this routinely.
