Vintage German Frieling-Zinn 95% Pewter “Die Lindenwirtin” Relief on Solid Oak – circa 1970s

Decorative German wall panel by Frieling-Zinn, featuring an elaborate three-dimensional pewter relief mounted on a solid oak wooden panel and frame.

The pewter is clearly marked “Frieling-Zinn – 95% Germany”, while the reverse retains a “massiv Eiche” label, indicating solid oak.

The scene represents “Die Lindenwirtin”, a well-known German song/poem by Rudolf Baumbach. The relief depicts a travelling gentleman seated beneath a tree, raising his bag towards a young innkeeper, surrounded by a detailed rural landscape, traditional architecture and decorative foliage.

The scroll at the bottom carries lines from Die Lindenwirtin, beginning with “Keinen Tropfen im Becher mehr und der Beutel schlaff und leer…”.

The craftsmanship is particularly detailed, with strongly modelled figures, clothing, architecture, vegetation and ornamental borders. The silver-grey pewter contrasts beautifully with the warm tone of the oak.
