Elegant vintage Italian onyx jewellery box dating from approximately the 1950s–1960s.
This substantial box is made from beautifully veined natural onyx in warm cream, beige and honey tones. The stone has the characteristic translucent depth and variation that makes Italian onyx so decorative.
The box is elevated on ornate adorned metal feet, giving it a refined and almost architectural appearance. Its generous proportions and considerable weight make it an impressive decorative object as well as a practical box for jewellery, keepsakes or other small valuables.
Measuring approximately 11.5 cm wide, this is a relatively large and heavy example compared with many smaller vintage onyx boxes.
The combination of polished natural stone and decorative feet gives the piece a luxurious mid-century Italian character.
It would look beautiful on a dressing table, console, desk or as part of a collection of antique and vintage boxes.
