Ο Léon Breitling ίδρυσε την ελβετική μάρκα ρολογιών με το ίδιο όνομα το 1884. Η εταιρεία αρχικά εξειδικεύτηκε σε ρολόγια υψηλής ποιότητας και χρονόμετρα εξοπλισμένα με πολυάριθμες κομπολογίες.
