Original First World War British medal pair, both officially named to the same soldier:
7662 PTE. W. F. JOHNSON. NOTTS. & DERBY. R.
W. F. Johnson served as a Private in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, better known as the Sherwood Foresters.
The group consists of:
* British War Medal 1914–1918, silver, bearing the portrait of King George V on the obverse and the mounted figure of St George on the reverse. The rim is officially impressed with Johnson’s service details.
* Allied Victory Medal 1914–1919, bronze, with the winged figure of Victory on the obverse and the inscription “THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914–1919” on the reverse. It bears the same recipient details on the rim.
Both medals therefore form a matching, attributable pair, rather than two medals assembled from different recipients.
The original/period ribbons are present. The medals show normal signs of age and service, including patination, small marks and ribbon wear. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
