Introduced around 1960, the Seiko Champion was created as an accessible yet well-finished hand-wound watch for everyday use. Early examples were characterised by clean dress-watch styling, slim cases and reliable Seikosha movements fitted with Seiko’s Diashock shock-protection system.
Manufactured in February 1960, this early Champion features an elegant champagne sunburst dial, applied gold-tone hour markers and matching dauphine-style hands. Its gold-plated case and restrained design are strongly representative of Japanese dress watches from the beginning of the 1960s.

The watch is presented in attractive vintage condition. Its champagne sunburst dial retains a pleasing warm-toned reflective finish and is complemented by applied gold-tone baton markers and matching dauphine-style hands. The printing remains clearly legible, including the elegant Seiko Champion signature and the “Diashock 17 Jewels” inscription.
The dial displays light patina, small marks and subtle age-related discolouration but remains visually appealing overall. The hands and applied markers also show gentle signs of ageing consistent with the watch’s period character.
The 20-micron electro-gold-plated case displays scratches, small marks and general signs of previous wear. Some localised wear to the gold plating is visible around the case edges and lugs. Nevertheless, the slim profile and long, elegant lugs remain well defined. The stainless-steel case back bears the original Seiko Champion engravings and shows surface scratches consistent with its age.
A new, scratch-free crystal and a new black leather strap have been fitted. The 17-jewel Seikosha hand-wound movement has been fully serviced and is functioning correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on its operation.
