Vintage Märklin DA 800 / 3005 BR 23 014 (H0) Locomotive – Rare transition model (1955–1956), all-metal construction
Description:
For sale: an authentic collector's item – a Märklin BR 23 014 steam locomotive with tender, H0 scale (1:87), designed for the AC (3-rail) system.
This is an extremely rare and sought-after transition model, manufactured in Germany between 1955 and 1956. Its unique historical value is confirmed by the mixed markings cast in relief directly onto the cab: one side bears the old catalog code "DA 800," while the other displays the new code "3005."
Technical details and specific features:
Manufacturer: Märklin (Germany)
Exact period: Approx. 1955–1956 (confirmed by the original *Märklin-Schrift* cursive font)
Chassis markings: "Made in Germany" cast in relief (cursive script) on the underside.
Construction: Heavy die-cast metal throughout (Zamac body and tender), complete red metal wheels, and intact original metal connecting rods.
Cosmetic condition: Very good for its age (over 70 years old). The black and red paintwork is 100% original factory finish, featuring a superb, authentic patina with minor nicks consistent with age; there has been no repainting or touching up. Shows no signs of oxidation or rust. Visual mechanical condition: The long central copper pickup shoe (skid type) is straight and clean, showing minimal wear. The brass gears and cogwheels are clean with intact teeth, free from heavy dust or old grease deposits.
Operational status:
The locomotive is sold untested (I do not own Märklin AC tracks or a transformer to run it). It is sold exactly as shown in the photos ("as-is"), serving as a superb, clean base for a minor service or for immediate display in a vintage model train collection. It has not undergone any modifications or modern digital conversions.
