Black Tomesode Kimono with Gold Pine Trees and Silver Pine Cone Embroidery
Description
This vintage Japanese silk kurotomesode presents a landscape of golden pine trees unfolding across the lower hem, set against a deep black ground. The contrast recalls the quiet atmosphere of a Japanese painted screen, where luminous forms emerge from an expanse of darkness.
The gold-toned pine design gives the composition warmth, while silver-thread embroidery highlights the pine cones with subtle texture and relief. As the fabric moves and catches the light, these silver details bring a gentle shimmer to the scene, balancing the richness of the gold with a quieter, delicate accent.
Rather than an abundance of seasonal flowers, this kimono draws its character from the enduring presence of the pine. In Japanese decorative tradition, the evergreen pine is associated with longevity, resilience and good fortune, making it an auspicious motif for a ceremonial garment.
The spacious black ground above the decorated hem allows the landscape to stand out with a sense of calm and dignity. The silk has a soft, flowing drape, giving the design a different expression when worn, displayed open, or viewed in the folds of the fabric.
Five family crests mark this garment as a kurotomesode of the highest traditional level of formality for married women, worn for weddings and other important ceremonial occasions.
An expressive example of Japanese textile design, suitable for a kimono collection, traditional styling, or display as textile art.
Material
Silk, with gold-toned decoration and silver-thread embroidery.
Condition
Very good vintage condition, with light signs of age and storage.
The silk retains a rich black colour and a flowing drape. The gold-toned decoration and silver embroidery are well preserved, and the lining is clean and well maintained.

■ Seller's Story
Hello from Japan.
My father ran a second-hand and antique shop, and I began selling internationally by offering items from his shop.
I have always loved old things myself. Today, I enjoy discovering beautiful and interesting vintage Japanese items and sharing them with people around the world. I choose each piece for the qualities that catch my eye—its craftsmanship, design, or individual character.
I personally inspect, photograph, describe, and carefully pack each item. I hope you find something here that you will enjoy and treasure in your own home.
