“Venice” is an original oil painting by Romanian painter Vitalie Butescu, created in 2026.

The work captures Venice through one of the artist’s characteristic atmospheric compositions: the monumental Venetian architecture rises above a busy canal filled with gondolas, while the shimmering reflections of the water dissolve the scene into vibrant strokes of colour. Rather than focusing on architectural precision, Butescu emphasizes light, movement and atmosphere, giving the city an almost dreamlike quality.

The painting is built through a rich, expressive application of oil paint. Cool blue and violet tones in the architecture contrast with warm ochres, reds and luminous turquoise reflections, creating a particularly vibrant interpretation of the Venetian landscape. The visible brushwork gives the surface energy and depth, while the gondolas and vertical mooring poles provide a strong rhythm throughout the composition.

Venice is a recurring subject in Butescu’s artistic practice. His work is generally associated with Impressionism, and his approach combines traditional landscape painting with a distinctive, highly personal use of colour and painterly brushwork. His paintings of Venice, Balchik, churches and historic architecture are particularly recognizable for their emphasis on light and chromatic vibration.

Vitalie Butescu graduated from the “Ioan Andreescu” Academy of Visual Arts in Cluj-Napoca and is a member of the Union of Fine Artists of Romania (UAP). His career includes more than forty solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, international art fairs and art camps. His works are held in private collections internationally, as well as in museums and cultural institutions.

The artist’s continued exploration of Venice was also highlighted by the 2026 exhibition “Veneția Eternă”, dedicated entirely to his interpretations of the city.

This painting is an opportunity to acquire a 2026 original work by an established contemporary Romanian impressionist painter, combining a timeless subject with the artist’s recognizable expressive technique.
