Description
Beyond the Stars is a unique original artwork by British contemporary artist Naomi Wallens, inspired by photographs of David Bowie and Amy Winehouse taken by photographer Scarlet Page.
Wallens imagined the two iconic musicians meeting as friends — perhaps leaving a Camden bar together one night, walking home, talking, laughing and sharing stories. Although this meeting never happened, the idea of these two extraordinary and unconventional artists crossing paths felt like a natural and compelling possibility.
Using Page’s photographs as the visual inspiration, Wallens has created a new hand-painted interpretation, combining stencil work, acrylic paint and oil pastels on birch wood. The work brings together photography, painting and street-art influences to create an imagined encounter between two defining figures of British music.
Scarlet Page is a British music and portrait photographer whose career includes work with The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Placebo, The Darkness, Stereophonics and Robbie Williams. Her photographs have appeared on album artwork, book covers, tour material and collected prints, and her work has been exhibited at the Royal Albert Hall and Proud Gallery, Camden. She was a winner of the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain award in 2020.
Naomi Wallens is a British multidisciplinary contemporary artist, designer and visual storyteller working across painting, sculpture, neon and mixed media. Working at times under her street tag ‘SHYGUY’, she is known for a bold visual language combining street-art influences, cultural references, humour and social commentary. Her work has been exhibited at The Saatchi Gallery, London.
Beyond the Stars is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork, signed by both Scarlet Page and Naomi Wallens and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by both artists.
Condition: Very good overall. Minor variations, surface textures and imperfections are inherent to the hand-painted process and form part of the character of the original artwork.
