IMPORTANT SHIPPING NOTICE — Please Read Before Bidding

As this is a genuine Japanese sword (nihonto), an export permit from Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkacho) is legally required before international shipment. This process typically takes approximately one month. Please factor this into your delivery expectations — the item will not ship immediately after payment. We will keep you updated throughout the process.

From the Japan Rare Archive curated collection — sourced directly from Japan's antique trade network.
Wakizashi by Shinano no Kami Fujiwara Nobuyoshi — Mid-Edo Period Yamashiro Swordsmith
An exceptional wakizashi by Shinano no Kami Fujiwara Nobuyoshi, a respected swordsmith of the mid-Edo period and counted among the "Kyo Goji" — the Five Master Smiths of Kyoto's Yamashiro tradition. The 44.3cm blade displays a dynamic, beautifully animated midare-ba (irregular temper line), with rich and varied activity visible within the hamon, catching the light with refined brilliance from every angle.
Signed (mei) on the tang: "Shinano no Kami Fujiwara Nobuyoshi" (信濃守藤原信吉). Accompanied by its original Japanese Sword and Firearm Registration Certificate (登録証), issued by the Ishikawa Prefecture Board of Education, as required by Japanese law for legal possession and export of antique edged weapons.
Type: Wakizashi

Smith: Shinano no Kami Fujiwara Nobuyoshi (信濃守藤原信吉)

School: Yamashiro, one of the "Kyo Goji" (Five Smiths of Kyoto)

Blade length (nagasa): 17.44 in (44.3 cm)

Overall length: 22.83 in (58 cm)

Width at base (motohaba): 1.18 in (3 cm)

Width at tip (sakihaba): 0.87 in (2.2 cm)

Thickness at base (motokasane): 0.24 in (0.6 cm)

Thickness at tip (sakikasane): 0.20 in (0.5 cm)

Weight: 468 g (blade only)

Includes: Blade, shirasaya, original registration certificate
A signed work by a recognized Kyoto swordsmith of the Edo period, with a lively, well-defined hamon showing genuine skill in temper-line artistry — an accessible entry point for collectors seeking named-smith nihonto with full legal documentation.
Attribution is provided for reference only, it remains subject to authentication.
No edge chips (ha-kobore) or edge cracks (ha-giri). Light surface scuffs, scratches, and minor age-related staining are present, with a very small flattening visible at the tip (kissaki). The shirasaya shows scuffs, scratches, tape residue, dents, staining, prior repair, and minor lifting — typical of a well-used antique mount. Please review all photos before bidding.
