Important Antique Silver Inkpot of Massiv Silver with Neoclassical Taste and Putto with Wings
Important antique desk inkpot in solid silver, of neoclassical period and taste, characterized by a richly worked structure and an elegant decorative composition, embellished by a central figure depicting a winged putto.
The structure features a wide rectangular base with a smooth upper plane, bounded by a scenographic peripheral band finely chased and pierced, decorated with elaborate volutes, acanthus leaves, floral motifs and vegetal ornaments. At the center of the front band rises a monumental anthropomorphic mascaron in relief, framed by a rich composition of symmetrical foliate elements.
The upper part is organized around a central cylindrical element, set on a quadrangular base with four small pen-holders, decorated with foliate motifs. The central body presents chased ornamental bands and supports an elegant pedestal topped by the figure of a winged putto, depicted in an upright position, with one leg slightly raised, one arm raised upward and the other extended forward. The figure is modeled with particular attention to facial features, curly hair and anatomical details.
To the sides of the central composition are two large urn-shaped recipients, supported by shaped feet and characterized by bulging bodies, incised bands and geometric decorations. Both are equipped with richly worked circular lids, topped by small figurative elements representing birds.
Particularly refined is the work on the front band, which features a rich interweaving of floral motifs, opposing volutes and pierced foliage, culminating in the central mascaron. The ends extend into broad foliate decorations, giving the whole an elegant and scenographic appearance.
The structure is completed by two shaped side handles, also decorated with ornamental motifs, which further enrich the composition.
The silver surface presents a patina with slight brownish tones, small marks and traces of time, especially evident in the smooth parts and in the recesses of the chasing. There are also stamped marks impressed on the metal, photographed, whose exact identification requires verification.
An object of great charm and notable decorative presence, appreciable for the richness of the workmanship, the balance of the proportions and the refinement of the sculptural elements. An important desk accessory, ideal for collections of antique silverware, study rooms, libraries and representative environments.
