Αρχαία Αιγυπτιακή Φυλαχτό Djed (χωρίς τιμή ασφαλείας)
Ancient Egyptian Djed Amulet
Circa 1550-1069 BC
This amulet presents a djed pillar with four cross bars.
The djed, conventionally called the 'pillar of stability', is one of ancient Egypt’s most recognisable amuletic signs. Its form comprises a vertical shaft surmounted by four parallel crossbars, often with a slightly flared base. In religious interpretation, the djed represents the backbone of Osiris. The sign appears from the Old Kingdom onwards in temple reliefs, coffins, jewellery, and statuary, and remains current into the Roman Period.
Cf. W. M. F. Petrie, Amulets, Plate III.
Dimensions: 4,5cm x 2cm x 0,5cm
Provenance: Private European Collection; formerly acquired from old UK and European collection formed since the 1970s.
