This lot comes from the private collection of Mr. J. Bahamonde who over a period of 20 years acquired his collection from various prestigious dealers and has now decided to downsize his beloved collection. His degree in ancient Near East and Roman Britain archaeology from Manchester University, one of the best in the U.K. and passion for ancient history is reflected in this beautiful and most intriguing artefacts.
(1) - A dog figurine depicted with a collar round its neck; purchased in Turkey, 1969 for 150 Deutsche Marks. See photocopy of provenance. (please note that the dimension in the collection is incorrect. The correct size of this figurine is below.
Length: 85 mm
Height: 50 mm.
(2) - A wild ibex terracotta figure, purchased in Alanya Yagdur, Turkey, 1969 for 50 Turkish Lira (17 Deutsche Marks). See photocopy of provenance.
Length: 90 mm
Height: 80 mm.
(3) The Astarte deity terracotta head depicted some facial features, and intricate hairstyle. Purchased in Alanya Yagdur, Turkey, 1969 for 17 Deutsche Marks -see photocopy of provenance. On custom made stand, collection number: 139.
Length: 40 mm (the head only).
Condition: All in good ancient condition considering age and material, some mineral deposits
Provenance: From the collection of Gabriele und Wolfgang Leiner, and thence by descent. Gabriele and Wolfgang Leiner are known for their historical research and editorial work, particularly on topics related to Wrttemberg history and historical documents from the region. They are the editors of Gottfried Tobias Ritter's Stuttgarter Tagebuch 1793.
