Pieter Gerardus Sjamaar lived and worked in The Hague. Most of his paintings depict cityscapes and interiors with figures illuminated by candlelight.He was born on 22nd February 1819, and apart from his travels, he remained there for the whole of his life.
Pieter Geerard Sjamaar was a painter of genre subjects, landscapes and architectural scenes.

Sjamaar's paintings can be found in many museums and art galleries throughout Europe, including Le Musee Communal de La Haye, where there are at least four of his works.
