The first man in space is historicly Youri Gagarin. But a lot of rumours in 1961 said the first man in space was Vladimir Ilyushin.
Journalist Dennis Ogden was the first to publish that Vladimir Ilyushin was the first man in space, but the landing went wrong, and Ilyushin landed in China, where he recovered some time.
And Russia (the CCCP at that moment) could not have a failed mission.
It took me many years to contact him, but I found a Russian journalist (Alexander Chizhenok) to visit Vladimir Ilyushin (on demand I can send scans of this contact), and to have him signed some photos for me.
Vladimir Ilyushin should have been the first man in space. He was the sun of Sergei Ilyushin, founder of the Ilyushin plane factories.
So I include with this signed photo :
- copy of an artilce in the "Flying Review" of July 1961
- copie of 2 faxes senced to the US Secretary of State about this rumours, declassified some years ago.
This was so important the archive service of NASA asked me some copies of all this.
Vladimir Ilyushin died in 2010, denying he was the first man in space.
But he got more medals and titles then Youri Gagarin
I only give here parts of the scans, full scans will be sended to the the byer of the signed photo.

Officieel is de eerste mens in ruimte Youri Gagarin. Maar het gerucht ging in 1961 dat de eerste mens in de ruimte de Rus Vladimir Ilyushin was.
Journalist Dennis Ogden was de eerste die dit openbaar maakte. Ilyushin's landing zou mislukt zijn, hij zou geland zijn in China, en moest geruime tijd herstellen van zijn verwondingen. Op dat ogenblik kon Rusland (toen USSR) zich geen dergelijke mislukkingen permiteren.
Het duurde heel wat jaren eer ik een journalist (Alexander Chizhenok) vond die Vladimir Ilyushin wou opzoeken en contacterenlukte. (copy van die contacten stuur ik op aanvraag graag mee).
Vladimir Ilyushin tekende enkele fotos voor mij, maar ontkende de eerste mens in de ruimte te zijn geweest.
Ook al kreeg hij nadien meer decoraties en eretitels dan Youri Gagarin.
Vladimir Ilyushin was de zoon van vliegtuigbouwer Sergie Ilyushin.
Samen met de gesigneerde foto stuur ik ook :
- kopie van een artikel dat verscheen in "Flying Review" van juli 1961 over Ilyushin
- kopie van 2 faxen van de US 'Secretary of State', die tonen dat de de US zeer verveeld zat met de situatie
Enkele jaren terug kreeg ik trouwens de vraag van archief afdeling van de NASA of ik hen die scans kon bezorgen.
Vladimir Ilyushin overleed in 2010.
Ik geef hierbij enkel gedeelten van de scans van het artikel en de faxen, maar de koper krijgt ze uiteraard volledig.
