Paul COLIN (1892-1985):
‘Joséphine BAKER, la danse des bananes’.

Painter, draughtsman, Paul COLIN is one of the greatest poster artists of the first half of the 20th century
(portraits, theatre, music hall, cinema, major events...).
In 1925, he created a poster for ‘Revue Nègre’ which launched his career as well the career of Josephine BAKER. 
In 1927, he created the album ‘Le Tumulte Noir’, a compilation of lithographsn once again highlighting 
Joséphine BAKER.
Among them, ‘La Danse des Bananes’, where she is wearing her famous fruit belt.
He repeated this theme and this position of Josephine, 3/4 right, one leg bent, one arm raised, several times during 
his career, sometimes adding dancers, as it is the case in this illustration.

Paul COLIN's creations are exhibited in many public collections around the world: Museum 
of Modern Art (New York), National Portrait Gallery (Washington), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Museum 
of Decorative Arts (Paris)...

This theme is obviously very rare and sought after!

In good overall condition, please note there is a slight paper discolouration on the illustration side (more marked on the back) and some little tears  
on the margins which have been repaired (adhesive tape removed on the illustration side, left on the back) - once framed, they will be hidden by a passe-partout  
so they will have no visual consequences.
