Large Satsuma Vase with Flowers (44.5 cm), signed 'Satsuma Chikusai' - Porcelain - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

This lot comes from a private collection of Juan Carlos Bahamonde. Over a period of twenty years he acquired his antiques from various prestigious dealers. His degree in Archaeology from one of the top British universities and passion for Japanese art is reflected in this lovely large vase. The large vase tapering shoulders and flared rim, the body depicting a large display of peonies, chrysanthemum and camellia amongst floating clouds in gilt, the base signed 'Satsuma Chikusai' in gold and a Shimazu family crest in red Height: 44.5 cm. Condition: Good overall with very think and rich coloured enamels, some gilt rubbing on the rim and minor on some flowers, two stress star-shaped hairlines; these are related to cooling during manufacturing; the longest starting from the centre of the star-shaped hairline; 5 cm. the vase is very strong and stable.
