The Punu come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, region of Kasai, and they are currently settled in the valley of Kouilou-Nyari.  At the end of their immigrations, they progressively occupied the savannah and basins’ regions of Ngounié Nyanga (Ngunyi). The origins of the Punu are only known through oral traditions.  Traditions refer to the Kasai (southwest of eastern former Zaire) as the starting point of the Punu, before they reached southern Gabon.
