Ceramic jug with characteristic spout, from a private family collection.
Light pink body, ivory white glaze with orange, copper green, brown and deep blue decorations.
Probably an apothecary jar. The cartouche, inside a garland of leaves, is enclosed between two ribbons and contains an inscription of a medicin (perhaps a herbal remedy?) surmounted by a cross.
Similar objects date from the beginning of the 16th century and come from the central area of Tuscany.
According to some sources, similar decorations were found in the Spezieria di Santa Fina in San Gimignano.
While well preserved, the item has cracks and signs of wear and dirt all over the body.
