Percy Sykes was an English soldier, diplomat and scholar, who travelled and fought
in and around Persia for over two decades.
Posted with the British Army to India, he made several journeys through Persia and Iran.
In 1902 he detailed these travels in Thousand Miles in Persia and was awarded by
the Royal Geographical Society.
Sykes’ magnificent History of Persia includes a good deal on modern Iraq Arabia and Afghanistan.
The second edition offered here is almost as scarce as the first.
Original dark-blue cloth in very good condition, bright gilt figures of Cyrus the Great and Shah Abbas the Great on the two vols.
Bright gilt titles on the spines and top edges gilt.
Large octavo volumes with 561 and 594 pages, 2 frontispieces, 92 plates and illustrations.
6 Maps including 2 large folding maps in pockets at end.
Superb examples.
