First edition of this imposing atlas in plano format made up of 46 plates (numbered 1-45 + 14 in second part) containing over 800 engraved subjects.

Published by Techener one year after the author, Alexandre Lenoir’s (1761-1839) death, artist then medievalist writer founding curator of the Musée des Monuments Français ( 1795-1816) who played a crucial role in the conservation and the representation of French heritage, in the aftermath of the Revolution. It is now home to the Beaux-arts de Paris.

Text in two parts, “Précis de l'Histoire des Arts" followed by "Analyse Raisonné et Descriptive des Figures de l'Atlas".

Sturdy volume, spine of the binding redone during the 20th century in white vellum, white vellum corners, one of which has been redone. Interior: one dampstain on the upper part of all of the pages. The paper of the text has scattered foxing. The plates on superior laid paper have rare instances of foxing. The last 3 plates have more pronounced foxing.
