Le Véritable Messager Boiteux is one of the most popular almanacs in the eastern regions of France and Switzerland. It originated in the 17th century as a kind of booklet for those who wanted information of all kinds: calendar of the year with dates of fairs; current affairs of the year; account of local or foreign events, anecdotes or miscellaneous news. Each issue is illustrated with full-page and panel engravings, woodcuts engravings then lithographed. The cover, printed on the same paper as the interior, shows a beautiful view of Neuchâtel.

Created in the 17th century based on even older German models, in turn inspired by the Great Shepherd's Calendar, it contains conversions of weights and measures; some statistical information; a calendar for the year with its own title and the name of astronomer and historiographer Antoine Souci, printed in red and black, and mentioning fairs; ephemerides for the year; a report of some local or foreign facts; some anecdotes or various events. The illustration consists of several engravings in panels and full pages, and a folded panel, engraved on wood and then lithographed.
