AUTHOR: Confucius [J. de La Brune & S. Foucher. ]
TITLE: The Morality of Confucius, Philosopher of China.
LOCATION: PUBLISHER, DATE: In London [Paris chez Cazin], 1783, 12.5x8cm from 197pp

Extract from the warning: "The Work that is given to the Public, and where is contained,
in short, all the morals of Confucius, philosopher
Chinese, is quite small, if we look at the number of
pages that compose it; but he is very tall, without
doubt, if we consider the importance of the things that
are enclosed.
We can say that the morality of this philosopher is infinitely sublime, but that it is at the same time simple, sensitive and drawn from the purest sources of natural reason. Assuredly, never has reason stripped of the lights of divine revelation seemed so developed, nor with so much force. Since there is no duty that Confucius does not speak of, there is none that he does not. He pushes his morality well, but he does not push it further than necessary, his judgment always letting him know how far to go and where to stop.
