Deduction, or Declaration of the States of Hollandt and West-Vrieslandt; comprising a true, and thorough report of the Foundations of the Government of the Free United Netherlands; endespecialick of the law competing the respective States of the united Provinces yder separately, soo with regard to other states, republics, states and countries having reflection, andde with, or for the contemplation of the governments in themselves to trade, as in favor of saecken occurring within its respective provinces; with proper distinction of those saecken, which were made within Utrecht by the union of the union in 1579, or by some private surrender of the pre-union provinces to a generality, or to the disposition of the joint allies: instituted and serving to justify the granting of seeckere Acte of Seclusion, raeckende employ vanden Heere Prince van Oraigne. Passed by d'hoogh-gemelte Heeren Staten van Hollandt and the VVest-Vrieslandt on the fourth May 1654; with respect to the proceedings kept by the selve there: with thorough refutation of the gene that by, or by way of, some provinces has been produced - In The Hague, by the Widow, and the Heirs of wylen Hillebrandt Jacobz van Wouw , Ordinary Druckers of the Ed. Good. Band a bit dingy. Inside discoloured, a single spot, ink spot at top margin on page 126, moisture stripe along side edge on pages 5 to 10 and from page 128 to the end. Top half of the side edge of the first 2 endpapers and cover page slightly frayed.

Knuttel 7545. The text is attributed to Johan de Witt. The Act of Seclusion was a secret annex to the "Treaty of Westminster" that marked the end of the First Anglo-Dutch War. The Act excluded the House of Orange from the Stadtholdership. The Deduction is the defense of the Acte.
