HONOR AND DUELS - TWO RARE GIOLITI EDITIONS BY THE FAMOUS ATTENDOLO
Beautiful chivalric treatise that had considerable success, two works by the Jurist of Bagnacavallo Dario Attendolo.
Large brand of Gioliti: phoenix on flames that emanate from an amphora held by 2 winged satyrs.
There is also a counterfeit edition of the eighteenth century, which many authors cite as by Gioliti. (Treccani, Diz. biografico, s.v.)
Two works bound together, beautiful expanded edition, as we read in the title page “Nuovamente ristampato, et da lui corretto, & in molti luoghi ampliato”. Both Duello and Discorso intorno all'Honore were reprinted several times. Gabriel Giolito de' Ferrari published a second edition of the Duello, expanded and corrected by the author. Together with the Duello, precisely in the Gioliti edition of 1563, Discorso intorno all'Honore was published for the first time, which is confirmed in the dedication to the bishop of Narni, which bears the date of April 1 of the same year. Of both works there are also editions of 1564 and 1565 also published by Gabriel Giolito de’ Ferrari. First published in Venice in 1560.
Two volumes bound in one: Il duello (32), Pp 136; and Discorso di M. Dario Attendoli intorno all’honore, Pp 78. Typographic brand on the title page, beautiful woodcut initials, some slight mildew, rare sheets with slight browning, trimmed along the upper margin, coeval mottled leather binding, small defects and flaws on the spine. Sign.: \AST!⁸2\AST!⁸A-H⁸I⁴ Woodcut initials and friezes. Brand (Z535) on the title page - some pages underlined at the time, phoenix on flames that emanate from an amphora held by 2 winged satyrs and bearing the initials GGF.
