De voorstelling bestaat uit het 34e station, het rusthuis 'Sarugababa'. Er zijn meerdere reizigers en verschillende accommodaties. Op de achtergrond zijn grote bergen te zien.
Utagawa Hiroshige ook bekend als Ando Hiroshige was een Japanse kunstenaar en maakte ukiyo-e. Hij wordt gezien als de laatste grote meester in deze kunstvorm. Hiroshige is het meest bekende vanwege zijn landschap afbeeldingen, zoals 'Pictures of the Famous Places on the Fifty-three Stations'. Hiroshige heeft grote invloed gehad op onder andere de Franse impressionisten.
