The computer is in good condition with the usual discoloration here and there. The case has no damage. All keys have been checked and are working. The speaker works and the device responds to data input from the recorder.
The data recorder has suffered more from the ravages of time and needs to be handled with care. Visually, the device is like new. However, the eject remains blocked when the LOAD key is not fully raised; by lifting the LOAD button a bit, the door can be opened. When inserting a cassette and closing the door, a slight click will tell you that the door falls into place. The tape counter is not working.
Software from several cassettes could not be loaded because of reading errors so the tapedeck needs some attention and cleaning and also will probably need new straps as the REWIND is not running smoothly.
The previous owner put a switch on both power supplies for easier powering on and off.
All shown software boxes contain the matching cassette. Exmon is missing one of the two identical cassettes though.
I have not tested all cassettes lately but they are physically intact. Boxes show wear after all these years.
It is a complete set for the enthusiast.
The pictures are part of the description. TV-set shown in pictures NOT included.
The Acorn Electron is a British-made microcomputer introduced in 1983, produced by Acorn Computers Ltd. The computer was intended to be a cheaper version of the BBC microcomputer.
The computer has a RAM of 32 kilobytes and a ROM in which the operating system and an interpreter for BASIC are loaded. Programs can be saved and loaded with a regular cassette recorder.
The power supply is formed by an external adapter for 18 V. The computer can be connected to a television set, or to a monitor. The CPU is a 6502A from MOS Technologies. The computer has a clock speed of 2 MHz when only the ROM is used, and of 1 MHz or 0.5897 MHz when the RAM is used. This has to do with the fact that the machine does not have separate graphics memory, but the graphics data is in the main memory. That also means that when using some graphics modes, only about 20 KB of RAM remains.
This micro was especially popular in Great Britain, where it was at one point the third best-selling home computer.
