Charles Dickens, Barnaby Rudge, with a Frontispiece by Hablot Knight Browne and Engraved by W. T. Green 1849 - Early reprint Published by Chapman and Hall, 186 Strand, London In addition to the frontispiece, there are four engraved plates featuring Emma Haredale, Dolly Varden, Barnaby and Hugh, Mrs Varden and Miggs. Black half leather, with gilt titles. Marbled boars. The corners have a little rubbing, but the spine is in good, attractive condition. New end papers. old end paper has two owner's signatures (one possibly John Sheepshanks, the notable art collector and philanthropist). The corner of this page has been repaired with tape some time ago. The plates have moderate foxing to them, consistent with this sort of age / plate. The pages are pretty clean with a touch of foxing only. Overall a decent copy of an early edition.
