This is an original vintage poster by modern Dutch theatrical designer and playwright Kjeld Abell. Nini Theilade was a danish ballet dancer and choreographer. She appeared in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Sweden and Finland during the 1930’s and 40’s. She appeared in Max Reinhardt’s Hollywood film “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 1935. From 1938-40 she had leading roles in the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. She died in 2018 at the age of 102. Before becoming a playwright, Kjeld Abell worked as a stage designer at the Royal Dutch Theatre, where he would have seen Theilade dance as a child protégé. Abell went on to become famous as Denmark’s first modernist playwright.
