Each print in the series depicts a scene from a chapter of Murasaki's 'Tale of Genji', widely regarded as one of the greatest works in Japanese literature. Beautiful views of court life and travelling, all documented with amazing attention to detail, including the luxurious clothing and architectural arrangements. The images were made using very fine lines, vibrant colours and soft shadows to add depth. The designs provide a great view of upper-class Japanese life in the time of Genji.
