Ngulu executiezwaard, Ngombe, DR Congo 1940-1950
IJzeren sikkelvormige kling met lineaire insnijdingen, hout en messing, met koperen nagels en gebogen uiteinde.
Een Ngulu is een executiezwaard dat gebruikt werd door de Bantoevolkeren (waaronder de Ngombe, Doko, Ngala, etc.).
Het onthoofden van de Ngulu werd verboden door de Belgen tijdens de periode van de Vrijstaat Congo (1885-1908). Het wapen, beroofd van zijn functie, kreeg een nog sterkere symbolische en ceremoniële waarde. Vanaf de 20e eeuw werd de Ngulu gedragen tijdens de rituele dans Likbeti, waarbij het wapen werd gebruikt om een geit te onthoofden waarvan het vlees vervolgens door de hele stam werd gegeten.
Het zwaard komt uit onze privécollectie.
