Description
What is kumadori in Kabuki?
Among all the brightly colored makeup, ``Kumadori'' makes a particularly strong impression. This makeup method involves drawing lines with a brush on a face painted with a base color and shading it to one side with your fingers. It is called ``take'' the dark circles rather than ``drawing.'' ``Kuma'' means the boundary between light and shade, and is an exaggerated representation of blood vessels and muscles.
There are apparently as many as 50 types of kumadori makeup.
These are 16 representative types of kumadori.
