Byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) - Gold leaf, Lacquered wood, Silk, Paper - Japan - Late 18th century/Early 19th century (Edo period)

On the right side two 2-character name seals of which one reads 'Tessai/Tessei' 徹齊. Rendered in watercolour and ink on paper and gold leaf. The screen is bordered by two brocade silk trims – a slender ecru one, and a broad dark one, and is encased in a black lacquered wooden frame with protective hardware with engraved scrolling foliage design. -one corner piece missing- Period: Japan – Late 18th century/Early 19th century (Edo period). Considering its age, which is approx. 170-270 years old, it is in a good condition with traces of wear conform age, and restorations. Please have a close look at photos to have a clear impression of the condition. The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art.
