He Used sighname Syuukou. His common name is Yutaro. He was born as the eldest son in Shimotsuke Province (present-day Tochigi Prefecture) to a father who was a former retainer of the shogunate. In the mid-to-late Meiji period, he created nishiki-e paintings of the Sino-Japanese War and illustrations for children's magazines. He first studied under Eitaku and learned the Kano school, and then also studied under Mishima Shosou and Suzuki Kason. He specializes in portrait painting, and has exhibited his works under the name Ensei in many exhibitions, winning selections. It is said that after Eisaku's death, he taught himself how to draw block pictures, and he worked for the Tokyo Mainichi Shimbun, where he continued to draw illustrations for a long time. He also belonged to the Hakkokai(白光会), which was sponsored by Hanko Kajita.
