Kate Greenaway (ill) - Little Ann & Other Poems - 1890

"Little Ann & Other Poems" by Jane and Ann Taylor and illustrated by Kate Greenaway - Frederick Warne, London -ca 1890 first thus UK edition - 18cmx15cm - condition: good, original boards with minor wear, complete with all Greenaway illustrations, some page foxing. "On the strength of 'Under the Window' and 'A day in a child's life' (1881), 'Mother Goose' (1881) and 'Little Ann' (1883), the 'Art Journal' claimed Kate Greenaway had earned a remarkable reputation and "has obtained a position of standing among the artists of the present day" – the artists, not illustrators: clearly she had elevated herself from the prejudices surrounding illustration." Engen, Rodney. ‘Kate Greenaway’, Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, 1980. The material presented here is of the instructional sort, typical of the Victorian era, with titles such as 'Dirty Jim', 'Meddlesome Matty' and 'Mischief', outlining the results of these moral and behavioural errors. Although individual poems are not ascribed, the work contains poems by Ann Taylor (1782-1866), Jane Taylor (1783-1824) author of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’, Isaac Taylor (1759-1829) and Adelaide O'Keeffe (1776-1855).
