A large refined Fubako 文箱/文筥 (letter box) in excellent quality made by nashiji and maki-e lacquered wood, with a length about 37 centimeters. The outer surface of this fubako shows a fine maki-e gold lacquer lid decoration of flying cranes, pine trees, plum blossom, turtle and rocks. This pattern was created with great precision and detail, capturing the beauty in every nuance. The gold lacquer was applied with great skill, creating an effect of depth and three-dimensionality to the floral motif. The bottom of the box is decorated with a black shimmering lacquer, which has been evenly applied and sanded to create a flawless finish. The black lacquer creates an elegant background that further highlights the decorative details. The interior of the Fubako are coated with nashiji lacquer, a traditional Japanese finish that creates a thick gold dust effect over the entire surface.
